The VOX Apache II Bass (Salmon Red) is a short scale bass guitar from the unique Apache series. All of the travel instruments in this series are equipped with an internal amplifier, a speaker and six AA batteries, which come together to produce a solid electric bass sound. You can adjust the sound via drive and tone controls. Furthermore, the Apache II models are quite striking thanks to their classic Phantom body, which also differentiates them from their Apache I teardrop counterparts.

The independent VOX Apache II Bass

Even though the Vox Apache II Bass (Salmon Red) doesn't need an external amplifier, it still has a 6.3mm output so you can connect it to one if you'd like. It's also equipped with a headphone output so you can practice anywhere you want without disturbing those around you. Of course, another interesting and certainly convenient feature of the Apaches is the rhythm generator, which offers 66 rhythms consisting of 10 styles, each with six possible tempos. Finally, an AUX input makes it possible to connect your MP3 player so you can jam along with your favourite tunes.

• If the bass guitar is switched off and an amplifier is connected, the sound goes directly from pickup to amplifier, just like with a typical bass. Turn the bass guitar on, and you'll hear the sound that would typically come out of the built-in speaker, including rhythms.
